A couple of players accused one side of having a cheater, and the player with the most kills (according to the server browser) had the word HACKER in their name. Nearly every gun was looted quickly, except for the pistols that had no value. You kept most of your items on death, dropping any guns equipped. The map had several flanks, some of them underground or high up on ridges or buildings, and I assume the bases were at opposite sides of the map, so the fighting moved the frontline back and forth near the middle of the map. The playermodels on both sides were dark and had gas masks, so it could be difficult to tell which side a player was on, especially when lone players were running around, although usually both sides stayed in groups were engaged in straight-forward firefights. The leaders tended to sprint ahead, while the squadmates and some random teammates would sometimes go off in other directions. If you had a squad leader they appeared with a green outline, while the squadmates had a blue outline. Players often ran over to it individually rather than wait to join a squad. The gameplay was largely team-deathmatch, and I could see a firefight in view from our base. You'd get a salary of 50 requisition every now and then, and the default weapons were keys and fists, and holding R raised the fists. Using F3 you could reveal your character name to others, but it didn't seem to be used on this server as everyone on the team knows eachother by default. Critical communication was done through text, but players would often run from base into the battle without stating which squad to join. One player said "i bet this is gonna end up in a hudson archive". The regular chat was a mixture of local in-character chatter about weapons, and out-of-character banter. The text radio chatter was above the regular server chat. Disliking bloated contentpacks, I would have preferred they trimmed some of the unnecessary addons to reduce the download time, although I'm sure some players enjoyed the wide selection of guns. The Civil Protection models looked very similar to the ones used in Half-Life 2, but their textures were so high it almost looked like they were glistening as if covered in frost. Other weapons had ammunition that had a pricetag, but the ammo was relatively cheap.

MP5K's were changed from 400 to 100 requisition and seemed popular, and their ammunition was free (light ammo). The GSH-18 pistol was free, so I used that. Most of the guns seemed expensive, or required a certain level to purchase. There were so many guns that it took me awhile to find one I could use. The armor vests were expensive, with the cheapest one being the weakest (I assumed).
There was a gameplay mechanic for something like bleeding, which apparently could be stopped, and there was an item for healing.

The armor system and health items confused me at first, but it turned out that you keep your armor vest even if you die, and can repair it for free at the vendor. There were vendors for health items, ammo, armor, guns, and attachments. The only thing that was explained to me were the vendors, and then to wait to join a squad before leaving the base. They were understaffed, and gave me a short version of the training - perhaps because they knew I had experience in Gmod. I started in a small room with a door closed, but they did a good job checking this room regularly to handle the new recruits. One was the Lambda Movement, and the other was Civil Protection which I joined. The intro screen describes the server as "A Survival shooter roleplay gamemode." There were 2 factions.

Downloading those files took awhile, so I did some chores and then restarted Garry's Mod when I got back. Joining the server auto downloaded files for a couple of minutes, and initially I saw some errors when I got in, so I was instructed to use the chat command /content which showed the contentpack on the steam browser, and subscribe to all the addons. The map was rp_outercanals_v3 and it had 73 players out of 75 slots. The server was called Half-Life: Warzone - GRAND OPENING, and it appeared under the gamemode name IX: HL2 RP. The activity there seemed much higher, and from it I learned they were launching the server on 12th Feb 2021. The activity levels there seemed low, but I through showing some interest in it I was invited to the Half-Life: Warzone Discord group which I didn't know existed.
